The form
Sized and shaped to your animal, with the antlers set solid.
01The form
A foam form and a set of antlers. Keep scrolling and watch it come back to life.
02The hide
The cape goes on one muscle at a time, so it looks like the buck you saw in the field.
03The details
That is where a mount lives or dies. It is also where I take the most time.
04The wall
Once it is on your wall, it is there for good. So it gets done right the first time.

#01The craft
Anybody can stretch a cape over foam. Getting it to look alive is the work: the set of the ears, the line of the neck, the wet look of the nose, the eyes that catch the light.
Every mount that leaves my shop goes through the same four stages you just scrolled through, and none of them get rushed.
Sized and shaped to your animal, with the antlers set solid.
Your tanned cape, fitted tight to every muscle line.
Eyes set, ears shaped, nose and lips detailed by hand.
Ready to hang and built to look right for the long haul.
#02The work
Every piece here came out of my shop in Corning. Look close at the eyes and the ears. That is what you are paying for.

#03Field to wall
This longhorn walked the pasture, then came through the shop. Drag the handle to bring it from the field to the wall.

#04About
I'm James McCormick. I run American Mounts & Taxidermy out of Corning, California.
I know what it took to get that animal home. The early mornings, the cold, the miles, the people you were with. A mount should bring all of that back every time you look at it.
So I treat every animal that comes through my door like it was my own. You talk to me, not a front desk. Call with questions anytime.

Not sure how you want it done? Call and we will talk through poses and options before anything gets cut.
Whitetail, blacktail, mule deer, pronghorn. Upright, semi-sneak, or turned, posed to fit your wall.
Clean, white skulls with the antlers or horns left natural. On a plaque, a hanger, or driftwood.
Packs, bedrolls, rifle racks, and barnwood. Tell me the story and we will build the mount around it.
Bear hides, longhorn skulls, and horns. Call and ask about anything else you have.
#06Straight answers
The questions hunters ask most. If yours is not here, just call.
It depends on the animal, the mount, and how much work is ahead of yours. I will give you an honest timeline when you drop it off, not a number that sounds good on the phone.
Price depends on the species and the type of mount. Call or send the form and I will give you a straight quote before any work starts. No surprises at pickup.
If you want a shoulder mount, do not cut the throat and leave plenty of cape, well behind the front legs. Keep it cool and dry, out of the sun. If you cannot bring it in within a day or two, freeze it. When in doubt, call me before you make a cut.
Because you are stuck with a mount once it is done. Shrunk lips, sunken eyes, and hair slipping off are what cut corners look like. Look at the eyes and ears in my work above and judge for yourself.

#07Get it on the wall
Calling is the fastest way. If I am in the shop with my hands full, leave a message and I will call you back.
